Northenden Players can trace their origins back to 1942 when a group of young persons in Northenden founded The Younger Generation and performed their first production - ‘The Rising Generation” by Wyn Weaver and Laura Leycester - on March 23rd.

By the end of the 1940’s the group had renamed themselves Northenden Players.

The early history has been researched and recorded in a booklet by John Wheatley, the chairman - “The Story of the Northenden Players - The First Twenty Years (1942 - 1962)”

In December 2007, after 50 years at Boat Lane the Players relocated to the Northenden Methodist Church Hall in Victoria Road, Northenden.

Rod Ashman

We were all very sad to hear of the passing of our beloved President Rod Ashman, during lockdown.

Rod had been associated with the Theatre with his wife Dolly for over 50 years.

Over that time he held many positions within the theatre culminating in him being given the position of

President Emeritus in 2020.

Over the years Rod formed many lasting friendships with people both in and outside the theatre.

He always had the welfare of the theatre at his heart and was delighted to see the players settle in their new home.

He will be sadly missed by many who knew him.
